"This is a great book. Well actually it's awesome. I just couldn't put it down. Because it was Gorilla glued to my hands :) I LOVE THIS BOOK!" ~Josie Arama

"My brother and I purchased this book as a Christmas present for our mom. Having never read any books by this author, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly suprised when I flipped through the pages and found it wonderfully written and gripping! My mom is throughly enjoying it, and as soon as she's finished, will be passing it onto me, which I am looking forward to. As we are both fans of historical fictions, this was a fantastic addition to our collection. I certainly recommend it! ~Sarah Rose

"I don't often have the luxury of reading three books in a row, but when someone as talented as author Amber Miller Stockton compiles a three-story series into one handy book, you just have to go for it! After meeting a daunting deadline at the end of last month, I rewarded myself with some quiet time to read through Amber's stories, beginning with that of Raelene Strattford, and then moving on Elanna Hanssen and, finally Margret Scott. Though each woman's life and loves are unique, a common thread of faith ties them all together in this well written saga of a brand new country called America. If you like early American history and compelling stories, don't miss Liberty's Promise!" ~Kathi Macias, Easy Writer

"So very excited about this! I am not a fan of mass market paperback, but I love Tiffany Amber Stockton (formerly published as Amber Miller and Amber Stockton) and her creative imagination she shares in her stories. So when I found out that her Delaware Dawning or Delaware Brides series (depending on who you talk to) from Heartsong Presents was going to be published in one **Trade paperback Volume... OH HAPPY DAY! If you have not already read the stories as they were, read them now and treasure them in this adorable one volume with a gorgeous cover. I am so excited about the Romancing America line of fiction from Barbour Books, so very excited. *grin*" ~Margaret Chind, Creative Madness

This three-in-one collection captures the flavor of our American heritage. Set in the 1700's, it follows the lives of three generations of women during an era when a woman had little right to express an opinion about the political issues of the times. The first story, Promises, Promises, takes place in 1739 and features Raelene who, left alone after her parents' tragic death, struggles to trust God again. Next is Quills and Promises, with Raelene's daughter, Elanna, as the heroine. She is attracted to a Major during the French and Indian War. While he is away fighting, Elanna prays for his safety and awaits his letters. Her feelings for him are tested when she hears disturbing reports of possible unethical behavior on his part. Deceptive Promises completes the collection. Elanna's daughter, Margaret, is attracted to a British soldier during America's fight for independence. The question of which side he is on is key as the colonies rebel, and Margaret finds herself wondering whether his declaration of love is trustworthy or deceptive. The author presents strong, goal-directed characters whose stories take the reader on a journey through some of the most dangerous and tumultuous times in American history. The presentation of historical facts adds depth and substance to these three novels. If you enjoy realistic American history fiction, you will love Liberty's Promise." ~Patti Shene, Patti's Porch

book cover: copper and candlesCopper and Candles

"Set in Detroit in the late 1800s, Amber Stockton’s Copper and Candles gives an interesting picture of life in a thriving city as businesses grow and expand.

Felicity lives on the right side of town, enjoying all the luxuries that money can buy. But she likes to help the less fortunate, not just by throwing money at them, but even by sharing their lives. When Lucy Gibson falls ill during her latest pregnancy and is told she can’t work, Felicity risks her family’s wrath by promising to work at the candle factory in her place. Now she learns how it feels to wear rough clothes and walk on dangerous streets, though fate provides her an escort in the form of a young man named Brandt. If only he wasn’t just a lowly worker in the copper mill...

Felicity struggles to keep her identity and her feelings from Brandt, afraid that he’ll imagine she’s using him. Meanwhile Brandt knows he’s falling for her, and he’s keeping secrets of his own. And their parents, as eager to keep fame and fortune safe as to protect their children, make marriage plans.

The author portrays the attitudes of rich and poor very effectively, and avoids the pitfalls of painting any grouping with a single brush. Felicity’s friends come from various social strata, and live in various different parts of town. Bosses mix business needs with genuine concern. The dangers of child labor are all too clear. And the whole comes to life, even to the details of food in the protagonists’ lunch pails.

Of course, love wins through, though its course is never simple. Doing right in our own eyes and doing right by others might not always be the same thing, but faith guides these characters, and forgiveness leads them home in a pleasantly satisfying conclusion to this gentle romance." ~Sheila Deeth, Gather.com

Copper and Candles is one of my favorite Heartsong novels because it tells the reader about two unfamiliar professions. Felicity volunteers incognito to work in a soap-candle making factory. Unaware that Brandt is working as a laborer in a copper foundry. They do not know each other, but both have the same concern - if their parents learned they were working as laborers, they would be furious. After a few turns and twists, the problems are solved and it ends happily ever after. It is a five-star story. You won't be able to put down Amber Stockton's other book, Patterns and Progress. This story takes us back to another time and the days of the marvellous driving machine, the Model-T and the Henry Ford plant in Highland Park, Mich." ~Velma Daniels, News Chief

"From the moment Felicity Chambers and Brandt Dalton run into each other literally and wind up with the wrong lunch pails, their lives become a collision course that will bring them both to a new understanding of who they are. Since neither one knows the other's background, the growing attraction between these two reveals the attitudes of the wealthy toward the working class in 1870's Detroit. Author Amber Stockton has done a wonderful job of showing the contrast between the two levels of society as well as giving us two characters who love the Lord and want to do what is best for the people with whom they come into contact in the factories. Amber weaves a story fraught with deception but filled with love and concern for others. When the deception drives Felicity and Brandt apart, God shows once again how bad things work for good when people follow His will and are obedient to His calling." ~Martha Rogers, Martha's Books

deceptive promises cover Deceptive Promises

"A touching love story with a dash of adventure awaits. In the third book of the Liberty's Promise Series, Miller sets this love story against the backdrop of the American Revolution. As with Quills & Promises before it, the pains of a growing nation during a time of war play a large role in the development of the story. In this book, however, I find that Miller did an even finer job of relaying the events of the day through dialogue, internal thought, and narrative than she did in the previous installment. Miller's strength has always been her characters, and that is no different in Deceptive Promises. The Liberty's Promise Series follows three generations of the same family. Had I known that at the onset, I would have purchased all three books together and read them in order. However, since these all read well as stand-alones, you'll miss nothing if you read them out of order. Some of the main characters in the first novella, play minor roles in the second, and some of those also appear in the third, so even though the love stories are isolated, it's nice to follow along with the family's history. If you want to be drawn into a touching inspirational love story set during the American Revolution, Deceptive Promises by Amber Miller is the book for you." ~Cheryl Malandrinos, The Book Connection

"The American Revolution provides a powerful setting for Amber Stockton's latest  Heartsong release, Deceptive Promises. I have visited some of the locales that provide the setting of Amber Stockton's latest novel. The era leading up to the American Revolution and the places where meetings were held to form our nation's founding documents is captured clearly within the story, and take the reader into the heart of America's birth. The relationship between Margaret and Samuel was very accurately portrayed for that time period, and their activities within the Colonial/British armies were also realistically explored. Deceptive Promises stirred my patriotism for America and made me thankful yet again to live in the greatest nation on earth. I was also left with a full heart – thankful to GOD for allowing our nation to prosper for so long. Deceptive Promises is a satisfying conclusion to the Delaware series, and one I am happy to recommend to you!" ~Kim Ford, Window to my World

"Rating: 5 of 5 stars - Deceptive Promises is probably my favorite of the three Liberty's Promise Series. Maybe it's because authors get better with time or just deeper into you heart. Maybe it is because the Revolutionary War is my favorite period of American history. Maybe it is because I cannot imagine falling in love and then being separated for months on end and want to know how the characters can possibly survive it! Either way, this book is fabulous and I loved it. Margret is not a half bad character name either, if you know what I mean. *grin* I am not a fan of mass markets, but anything from this author Amber Miller, now publishing as Amber Stockton is worth it. This is a story that delves into history and tells details of some of my favorite historical players. This is almost a history lesson with some romance thrown in. To really understand some of the other characters I would suggest reading the entire trilogy, but it is very capable of being read alone as well, and highly recommended as a novel as well." ~Margaret Chind from Creative Madness

"Deceptive Promises is the 3rd book in author Amber Miller's Liberty's Promise series. However, don't let that deter you from reading this historical novel. Each book can stand alone since the storylines deal with successive generations in the same family. In fact, I read the 2nd book back in December, never realizing there was a book prior to that one. Deceptive Promises could easily stand on its own too. One of the things I enjoy about Amber Miller's historical stories is that she doesn't overwhelm the reader with historical stuff. Don't get me wrong, a lot of history is shared in the stories, but not in a way that you know you are reading history. To me, that's the best kind of historical writing. Here's an example – Do you know where the name "Delaware" originated? According to Amber's story, it's a derivation of the name De La Warr. It's little bits of history like that scattered around the story that make Amber's books exciting to read. Like I mentioned in my review of book 2, this series is a "clean" series that I can definitely recommend for your teenage daughters. The love story is  honorable and full of integrity." ~Kara S. Read Chapter One of Deceptive Promises

image: Quills book coverQuills & Promises

"Quills and Promises is one of the better Heartsong historical novels I've read and truly hard to put down. The story swept me away and carried me back to a time when the French and the British were fighting over the same land before the American Revolution rocked the country. The atrocities were horrific, but thankfully weren't described in detail. The romantic elements in Quills was delightful and had the kind of emotional pull that makes you sigh as you turn the pages. The author did a masterful job with character emotion and showing the longing the hero and heroine had for each other. Their relationship developed beautifully over time and was very believable. Both characters were extremely likeable, too. The majority of their contact was through letters (hence the "quills" in the title) but that didn't take away from the story at all. In fact, I think it made me sigh more. I am definitely going to add Amber Miller to my favorites list for historical fiction Heartsong Presents titles." ~Michelle Sutton, Edgy Inspirational Author and Editor-in-Chief of Christian Fiction Online Magazine

"Quills and Promises by Amber Miller is such a lovely book. It is easy to fall in love with the main character, Elanna, who befriends a major, Madison Scott, in the war. The two correspond by mail for years as the war rages on. Elanna is a young girl who is very curious about the French and Indian War and does everything she can to find out the current happenings. Her curiousness eventually leads her to a writer at the local newspaper that questions the integrity of Major Scott. Elanna must decide who to trust, Major Scott who she has only met twice but has corresponded with for years, or the newspaper writer, who has first hand knowledge of the war. The book is a quick read and very clean. No bad language, no sexual situations - just a nice romance. All of the characters are very easy to love and I really wanted to know what would happen next. I really liked Elanna. She is very independent, always thinks before she acts, prays for guidance in her life, and accepts the consequences of her actions. She is the kind of girl I hope my daughter grows up to be." ~Courtney at the Book Nook Club

"Quills and Promises is everything a historical romance should be! Amber Miller has once again created a believable look back to the time when the French and Indian War was raging, and colonists had to learn a better and more successful way to fight. Just before the battle really begins to wage hot, Major Madison Scott is introduced to his cousin's friend Elanna Hanssen. The two begin a series of letters, and throughout the war both Madison and Elanna come to care a great deal for each other. But separation has its disadvantages, and Elanna must battle conflicting reports regarding her Major's role in the developing war. Continuously concerned for his safety and having to primarily depend on others for her news, Elanna finds herself facing some uncomfortable decisions. Encouraged by her mother, she turns to he Lord for wisdom, and as always, His answer is always right and timely! Both Elanna and Major Scott are characters that you learn to care a great deal about as you follow them through a very tumultuous time in our country. I really appreciate Amber's accuracy as she portrays this fascinating time in our country's history! I think it is wise for all of us to look back and remember the trials our country faced in its early years. Although Elanna and Madison's story is fictional, I feel it is an accurate portrayal of those whose lives were affected by this war. Quills and Promises is the second book of the Delaware Dawning trilogy. Please, pick up your copy today!" ~ Kim Ford from Window to my World

"Rating: 4 of 5 stars - *sigh* Is it not fabulous when as a reader, you turn the last page of a book and the first thing you do is sigh in complete contentment? Well that is my reaction and I am certain many others experience with the second Promises book from Amber Miller "Quills & Promises". It tells the story of the daughter of the characters from the first book, "Promises, Promises" and is complete on it's own as a stand alone as well. I cannot wait to read more from this author. The story took me into the time of the French & Indiana war, and I was able to meet people and learn personalities and experiences that I have not had before. It was great. One of my favorite movies is "The Patriot" and even though that was the Revolutionary War, this story reminded me of it, but it was better. In this story we have to characters that write letters through out the course of war and you find out things about the war as well as personalities. The best part that makes the story in the book better than that movie, is the devotion to God and even though the desire for retaliation is there, the act is not. That is something that is so hard, but so full of Christ's love as an example. I highly recommend the stories from Amber Miller to anyone craving a little romance in a historical setting." ~Margaret Chind from Creative Madness

"Amber has done it again with another wonderful book. I love history and this book includes a lot of history. I didn't know much about the English v French/Indian war. It was a brutal war and we get to learn some of the backdrop of what happened. The story between Madison and Elanna was well written. Throw in some questions about Madison's methods that cause concern and we have an intriguing book. I really enjoyed how this story played out and how it was totally different from the normal historical romance novel. I cant wait for the next book by Amber to come out cos each one so far has gotten better. Well worth reading. 4.5 our of 5." ~Jenny from Come Meet AusJenny

"I enjoyed it very much. The setting is the French and Indian war, pre-American Revolution. The historical details are good, the characters' struggles are universal and not dated, and the characters themselves are well-rounded for this being a short novel (only 170 pages). I haven't read too many Heartsong books, so I cannot say if this is a typical example of the line or not. But I can recommend Amber Miller, a fellow ACFW member, as an author to read. She has several books in the lineup at Heartsong for 2009 as well." ~Pattie from A Fresh-Brewed Life

"I don't read many Heartsongs. Not because I don't like them, but I'm just not in their book club, so I don't come across their books that often. With that in mind, I was eager to read this one because of the era and because the author is in ACFW and I've heard about this books impending release. As soon as I started this book, I was caught by the obvious research and love of history this author must have. The POV of each character was so steeped in the voice of 1756 I could almost hear their voices in my head as I read each scene. Very detailed and consistent to the time period. The letter-writing is a good example of being deep in the setting and plot. As you couldn't pull this off in a contemporary novel. It would seem unbelievable to have the characters fall in love just through their letters. But for 1756, it works. I thought the most obvious pro to this book was the author's knowledge of the time and place. Also, the ability to make us believe the characters were falling in love through letters. I look forward to more by this author and would even love to see a longer historical by her as she obviously knows her history. :)" ~Sabrina from Hijinks from the Heartland

"A Big Love Story in a Little Book. Amber Miller has again written a powerful love story in a small book. In Quills & Promises, readers return to New Castle, Delaware, at the beginning of the French and Indian War. Elanna Hanssen, a beautiful, inquisitive young woman meets Major Madison Scott before he leaves to serve in the war. They strike an instant friendship and begin a tender correspondence through the war. Elanna's insatiable desire for knowledge and understanding of the war and her love for the writing process draw her to contact with a local newspaperman. His intentions to woo her include posing questions about Major Scott's true loyalties. Elanna must learn to trust her heart and her faith as two men vie for her affections. One promises adventure and one promises his heart. Amber Miller takes the reader on an historical journey into our fledgling nation and its struggles. In the midst of the history, she weaves a love story that warms the heart and touches the soul. Grab a cup of tea and curl up on your best reading chair; you won't want to put the book down until you finish it." ~ Chandra Lynn Smith

"A tender mixing of inspirational romance, historical figures and memorable fictional characters come together for an enjoyable read. This is the second book in Miller's Delaware Dawning series. As I read through this, I thought Elanna could have been Anne Shirley from Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic "Anne of Green Gables". Elanna, like Anne, is constantly trying to reconcile what she would like to do with what is proper in society and for her age. This makes her a sympathetic character from the start. That sympathy increases when she is separated from Madison so quickly and later discovers he may not be the man she thought him to be. The reader is as eager to uncover the truth as Elanna is. The strength of this book is definitely its characters. Madison is torn between his duty, his hatred of war, and his desire to see Elanna again. The comraderie between Madison and the men in his regiment is something I very much enjoyed. Edric, Elanna's twin brother, is both protector and supporter of his twin, and ends up being crucial in Elanna getting information about the war. Mama understands Elanna's battle between her desires and what society allows, as well as, provides great insight into what Elanna must do in order to decide if she should follow her head or her heart. And Mr. Witherspoon, whose motives Elanna is not quite sure of, makes the perfect antagonist. Fans of inspirational romance and historical fiction will certainly want to read "Quills and Promises" by Amber Miller." ~Cheryl C.

"Quills and Promises by Amber Miller is the sequel to Promises, Promises and picks up with Raelene and Gustaf's daughter Elanna who starts up a correspondence with a soldier, Madison Scott, who is fighting in the French and Indian War. Madison and Elanna had an instant connection when they first met, and that connection grows as they write to each other other the three years Madison is at war. But three years is a long time to be away from the one you love, so when a newspaper reporter tells Elanna that Madison has been involved in some wartime atrocities, she's not sure who to believe. Miller's writing captures the little details about the Colonial era with accuracy and really help set the stage for this sweet love story. Elanna evolves from an innocent 15-year-old girl to a mature, intelligent 18-year-old girl by story's end, and Madison grows up as well as he faces the harshness of war. It's an enjoyable, quick, romantic read. " ~Christina from Christy's Book Blog

"I enjoyed this book not only for it being a simple love story, but also for its integrity. Amber Miller has proven that a love story can be good without the explicit details found in many of today's novels. I would not hesitate to give this book to my 16-year-old niece to read. In fact, this would be an excellent book for teen girls as they start to explore relationships. The truths that Amber teaches are timeless. She also models character traits - obedience, consideration, integrity, honesty - that everyone should strive for. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the Liberty's Promise Series." ~Kara S. Ramblings & Writings

"Amber Miller's "Quills and Promises" is a touching novel that captures the lost art of wartime letter writing. The daughter of Raelene and Gustaf Hanssen from Miller's previous effort "Promises, Promises" is the leading lady in this novel of complication, discernment and trust. During the time of the French and Indian war, Elanna Hanssen meetss her close friend's cousin, Major Madison Scott. When he leaves for active duty, they agree to correspond, and a beautiful relationship develops. The characters are charming and wholesome. The situations, perfectly suited to the story. This is a delightful story that feels a bit rushed at times, but still completely satisfies the reader. I thoroughly enjoyed the letter writing - the language of the time was truly an art form. It was a joy to spend a couple of hours with this book. " ~Stacey from Word up Studies

"Amber Miller writes a beautiful book. Elanna goes into town to meet her best friend Chelcy, what she isn't expecting is to meet Chelcy's dashing cousin Major Madison Scott. They are both taken with each other. The French and Indian war is just beginning and Madison has go and join his company in Boston. Elanna sneaks to town to listen to every word that is going on in the meeting in town about the war. Little does she know that Madison didn't actually leave, he had other business to attend to before leaving for Boston. They agree to write. Keeping their letters very proper for fear that someone may get a hold of them and make trouble for them. Trouble does arise and when it does, it is handled with God's most perfect grace. I highly recommend this book. I give it a lighthouse, and shine a light on it for a great book!" ~ Andie J of Radiant Light

"Do you ever think about what you will let your daughter's read when they are teens? I've thought of books I want to get for them and books I want to keep away from them. Quills & Promises is one that I would let them read. The heroine, Elanna Hanssen, was very respectful of her parents, even when they weren't around. She had a good relationship with her brother and was watchful of her reputation. With all that said she did seem real, not like an unattainable storybook heroine. This book only shows a glimpse of Elanna's life because it covers about 4 years, but it shows enough of her character that it didn't feel like there were holes in the story. We learn how she meets a Major in the British army, corresponds through letters, and runs into a dilemma regarding his honesty. Was he taking a wicked vengeance on the French and Indians? Who should she believe?" ~Jendi of Musings and Mommy Stuff

"I read Amber's first book in this series and loved it so when 2nd book came up for review I jumped at the chance.  I love historical books.  I see her third one is coming out soon so I'm going to have to keep my eyes open." ~Abi Buening of 4 the Love of Books

Read Chapter One of Quills & Promises

Promises, Promises

"Amber Miller is truly one of the strongest historical romance writers I've read in years. I just finished this book, and I'm thrilled with it! I told a friend, "It's the perfect blend of story, history and spiritual truth" and it's beautifully written, to boot! Sometimes historicals (as a whole) don't hold my attention, or the reader tries too hard to impress with historical lingo/tidbits. But in this case, I found myself caught up in the action right away and also found the story very believable. I could relate to both the hero and the heroine. And I love the way Amber presents the spiritual elements. She uses analogies. Great symbolism. Very subtle, and yet very effective. The heroine is led (quite gently)to the Lord by the hero. It's not at all manipulative. Believable. Real. And poignant. I can't say enough about Amber! Wow! This is her first book? Pretty amazing, when you think about it. Some of us write for years to get to this quality. Kudos, Amber! I can't wait to read the next one. And the next. And the next!" ~ Janice Thompson, Double-Booked Reviews

"I am primarily a historical reader/writer, so I fully expected to like Tiff's book, but HOLY COW, I found myself flipping through those pages like a heat-seeking missile! It was flat-out one of the best Heartsong books I have ever read, and I fully intend to post a review in the next few weeks or so because I just have to -- it was THAT good! In fact, I know that a book is good when I can pull myself away from the computer at night because I WANT to go to bed to read, which happened with this one. Heroes are very important to me, and Gustaf drew me like a moth to flame. His strength, his kindness, his quiet love for Raelene. My heart pretty much pounded every time they even got close to each other. WONDERFUL romance, which is incredibly important to me, and great spiritual message as well. I tend to like LONG and INVOLVED books, so I am very selective about the Heartsong books that I read. But if this book is an indication of where Heartsongs are headed today, I will definitely be reading a lot more." ~Julie Lessman, author of A Passion Most Pure

"Amber Miller skillfully carries her readers back to a time when women had little say in their lives. PROMISES, PROMISES is a story about a woman, Raelene, struggling with this perception and the man, Gustaf, that helps her. God has surely brought the two together but will Raelene accept his will? Powerful characters and an intriguing plot will keep readers mesmerized. Talented Amber Miller is an author to watch and with two more books in her Delaware Brides series to come, fans should be ecstatic." ~ Donna Zapf (rating 4 stars), CataRomance Reviews

"PROMISES, PROMISES is a book that will keep you quickly turning pages. The story is heartfelt, and deeply emotional. The characters are realistic and entertaining. I found the story to be one that while set in 1739 could just as easily apply to today. The message of faith plays a big part of PROMISES, PROMISES and only adds to the emotional pull of the story. Ms. Miller has written a story that promises to keep you reading and engaged until the final page is turned. This is book one of Ms. Miller's Delaware Brides series and a sure indication the next books will be a blessing and a pleasure to read. I look forward to enjoying them just as much as I did PROMISES, PROMISES. I highly recommend readers find a copy of Ms. Miller's story today." ~Wendy Keel (rating 4½ stars), The Romance Readers Connection

"Tragedy, hard work, and faith blend together to create an inspirational love story in Promises, Promises by Amber Miller. In this powerful first book in her Liberty's Promise Series, Miller brings together two characters from distinctly different backgrounds, who are forced to deal with each other because of promises they have made to the same man--Raelene's father. Though he has been rejected by Raelene in past, Gustaf does not deny the dying man's request to care for his daughter, which makes him an admirable hero from the start. Raelene's continued mistreatment of Gustaf turns him into a sympathetic character, and the reader finds herself hoping that Gustaf wins Raelene's heart. His faith in God never wavers. Raelene, on the other hand, has the reader's sympathy right from the start. Here she is, a young woman all alone in a strange land, tied to a promise made to her dying father that she will tend to the farm and turn it into what he dreamed. Not an easy task for a young woman dealing with the sudden loss of her parents. Set in 1740, Miller's historical details provide the reader with a time and place for this moving love story. I would easily read this one again if I had the time. Historical inspirational romance at its best, Promises, Promises by Amber Miller should be on your "to be read" list if you enjoy this genre." ~Cheryl Malandrinos, The Book Connection

"Amber Miller's Promises, Promises is the first book in her series, Liberty's Promise. It is an intense, emotional tale of struggle, heartache and pain, and the hope that can be found in faith and love. Raelene and Gustaf are both faced with the challenge of keeping promises made to a friend and loved one. Raelene has promised to keep her father's dream alive and Gustaf has promised to assist and care for the woman who rejected him. Forced together by their mutual desire to fulfill a dying man's wishes, these two must work as a team while fighting the growing attraction between them. I loved watching Raelene and Gustaf wrestle with their untimely attraction. Raelene was a feisty young woman, out to prove that by her own abilities she could make her father's dream come true. Her life has been torn apart and her faith shattered. Enter Gustaf. Strong, honorable, capable, gentle, shy - he is a man of strong character and faith. I loved watching as he worked hard to keep his promise without allowing his own desires to drive him. There is a delicious and tangible chemistry between these characters that keeps you reading, hoping and aching for them. There are laugh-out-loud moments and moments where you will catch your breath. It's simply wonderful. As an avid reader, I find I come across a lot of stories that have similar story lines and conflict. I found this book refreshing in its uniqueness and enjoyed the little unexpected twists that kept popping up in the story. It completely surprised and delighted me and left me anxious and excited for book two." ~Lily from Long and Short of It Reviews

"Amber Miller has written a lovely first book! She has a way with words, and I especially enjoyed the phrases in Swedish. I love anything multi-cultural, as I think it really adds a dimension to a story! She created believable characters, very real in their struggles and emotions as they faced challenges and grew because of them. If only we would all live as authentically as Gustaf! Amber has written a simple, yet beautiful tale of healing, forgiveness, and forbearance. Gustaf Hanssen is a man of God, willing to put into action that which he believes. He is a man who knows how to turn the other cheek, and to continue giving without growing weary. He is a man who will keep a promise, even when his obedience may bring pain. And Gustaf does not mince words in his effort to encourage Raelene to return to the Lord. It is Gustaf's genuine faith in action that eventually softens Raelene's heart toward God. More than a simple romance, Promises, Promises is a story of God's love toward His people—He will finish that which He has started, and all things do work together for good for those who are called according to His purposes! " ~ Jody Miller, At Home with Christian Fiction Reviews

"You are immediately drawn into Raelene's grief. I lost my mother suddenly, but I had a great support system in place with my husband of 23 years, and my children who loved my mom as much as I did. Amber Miller, with her talented gift of writing, puts you right there, with Raelene, with the thoughts and emotions she is experiencing. The grief, the aloneness and yet fierce independence and determination to do it herself, it's all there. You know, all through the book that Gustaf will be her knight in shining armor, it has to be. And yet, Amber ties all these other characters into the storyline, and even though your heart is telling you "it's Gustaf, it's Gustaf", your reading mind isn't quite so sure. Much like life. In your heart of hearts, you know God is there with you, every step of the way. But, your head allows the world to interfer, and often God is questioned, is doubted, is put in the backseat, because we are so sure we can "do it outselves". But, much like Raeline, we learn that we will find peace only when we allow him to be the center of our lives. I enjoyed this book. It was hard to put down, and I would come home and sit down and read, rather than get on the computer like I often do." ~Carolyn of Quiet Times with Carolyn

"I thought this was a nice, heartwarming read. Amber did a great job with taking us back in time. The scenery was lovely, and the characters were well-developed. You can feel Ralene's pain after she loses her parents, but I wanted to shake her a few times when she kept rejecting Gustaf's affections! Gustaf is a good-looking hunk of a man who has a big heart for the Lord! He has the patience of Job as he works as prickly Raelene's overseer. Although Gustaf loves Raelene, he's more concerned with her spiritual well-being, than with winning her affections. He finally leaves the whole relationship situation in the Lord's hands, and the ending has a nice twist that'll make you smile!" ~ Cecelia Dowdy, author

"This book was absolutely wonderful! Just finished it tonight and decided I would look her up online. I loved her story about Gustaf and Raelene. They seemed so real! I could especially relate to Raelene's feelings, because after I lost my dad in 2005, I went into a long period of depression. I had trouble trusting God, but now I realize it had a purpose. That thought has comforted me. Amber has an amazing gift for expressing people's innermost feelings. Thank you so much for this exceptionally fine work! I look forward to the new titles coming soon!" ~ Dominie, Heartsong Presents club member

"Oh my gosh, I loved this story! I finally got to read it and when I started, I couldn't put it down. I loved the characters, the writing, the plot, ah heck, I loved the whole thing! FANTASTIC! Her writing is awesome. I can't wait to read the next story." ~ Debra Ullrick, author of The Bride Wore Coveralls

"I read Promises, Promises recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. Amber did a fine job with setting, dialogue and characterization. I fell in love with brave, determined Raelene and gentle, giving Gustaf. I ached for him as he poured himself into helping Raelene save her family's farm, all the while putting her needs above his own. The emotional journey was expertly crafted and pulled me so deeply into the story I had a hard time putting the book down and ended up powering through it. She kept me on tenterhooks until the end and yet gave me and her characters a long-awaited, satisfying HEA. Well done! I read Promises, Promises for enjoyment and education, and her story provided both. Thanks to Amber for her example of excellent inspirational writing. I look forward to reading more of her work." ~Keli Gwyn, aspiring author

"Promises, Promises is Amber Miller's spectacular debut novel. Raelene and Gustaf are memorable characters with believable faults and much determination that drives the story forward. I felt for these characters and I appreciated the way Amber Miller was able to reveal life in Delaware in the 1700's in an entertaining and picturesque way. I've never been a history buff, but I sure enjoyed learning about this time through Raelene's and Gustaf's turbulent, yet progressive relationship. The chemistry between these characters was vivid and exciting and will long stick with me. Amber Miller writes in such narrative intimacy that you feel her hero's and heroine's conflicting emotions, confusion, frustrations, and joys, all the while drawing you further and further into their story. There is much to be taken away from this story in a subliminal way. It's entertaining and soul enriching--one beautiful read." ~ Eileen Astels, A Christian Romance Writer's Journey

"I read this book in 3 sittings. I really enjoyed it. I immediately warmed up to the main man, Gustaf. And Raelene reminds me of one or two women I knew in Corporate America. Very difficult to deal with but underneath all the "coldness" and "distance" is a vunerable woman." ~ Cynthia K.

"I enjoyed Promises, Promises very much. The first chapter made me think of a Hallmark movie. It was two weeks between reading chapter 3 and 4, and yet it all came back to me with the first line in chapter 4. A sure sign of good writing. Amber has done a fabulous job depicting the time period and the setting. I'm also so impressed by her description." ~ Judy A., reviewer and editor
